The Illumination LED or bottom of the screen lights up or blinking in different colours

LED Indicator lights are normally found on the lower front of the TV. There may be one or more lights, and on newer sets, one light may change colour to indicate different conditions orshow that certain features are enabled.

Check the table below for common meanings of the indicator lights and troubleshooting steps to help resolve any issues.

Red

System Error:

  • If aRedLED is blinking and the TV is not working properly, it means that the TV has detected an issue or problem.MostRedLED blink conditions require service.
  • The meaning of the blink codes differs between TV models. However, the number of blinking times is mostly 2 to 8.
  • If aRedLED is blinking, try the troubleshooting procedure below. If the procedure does not solve the issue and theRedLED is still blinking, check how many times it blinks, then contact support.

NOTE: 8 Times Blink- For certain models, a special reset procedure is needed if theRedLED on the front of the TV blinks 8 times and then repeats. This is a model-specific issue that may be resolved by followingthese steps(please check the answer to be sure your model is included).

    1. Turn the TV off and back on
If the TV will not respond to the remote or the power button, or if that does not fix the issue, unplug the TV. For a Projection TV or Projector, leave it off for 3 minutes. For other TVs, leave it off for 1 minute. Plug the TV back in and turn it on.
      NOTES:
      • If the TV is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.
      • Projection TVs and projectors need to cool down before they turn on again. You may need to wait several minutes before these will turn back on.
    2. Clean any vents/slots in the TV cabinet
Make sure there is room for air to circulate around the cabinet of the TV.
    3. Turn off the TV and unplug all devices connected to the TV
Turn off the TV and disconnect all connected devices. With all devices disconnected, turn on the TV again and check whether the LED blinks.
If it does not blink, the issue may be in the connected devices.
If still blinks, proceed to Step 4.
    4. Update the TV software to the latest version
If your TV is connected to the Internet, press theHomeorMenubutton on the remote to get into the setting menus. The Software Update option is usually found under theProduct SupportorContact Sonymenu.
In addition, you can check to see if a software (firmware) update is available for your television on our support site. Steps to install will be included if an update is available.
      NOTES:
      • For a limited number of Internet-capable models, the only option is to turn onAutomatic Software Updatesand allow the TV to update on its own. If you only have this option, make sure it is set toOn.
      • Older CRT TV's and TV's that cannot connect to the Internet do not have an option to check for a software update or may not be capable of being updated.
    5. Other things to check for some specific products
      • Some Sony TVs have a media box (tuner) and separate display. If you have one of these TVs, ensure the cable between the media box and the display is securely connected.
      • For Projection TVs and Projectors, make sure that the cover/door for the lamp is closed and secure.

Amber

  • A solidOrange/Amberlight means that a timer has been set and is active on the television.

    • On/Off Timer - turns the TV on and off at set times of the day
  • NOTE:Timers can be set, changed, or turned on/off in the television's Settings menu.

Software Update:

  • For anOrange/Amberblinking light with LCD and Plasma displays that have a media box (tuner) and separate display, check to make sure the cable between the media box and the display is securely connected.
  • For other TVs, a blinkingOrange/Amberlight means that thetelevision is receiving a software update. This only happens if your TV is connected to an active high-speed Internet connection.
    • Do not turn off thetelevision or remove power during a software update.
    • Your remote control will not work while an update is being downloaded/installed.
    • Updates may take a few minutes to download and install. Please be patient. The TV will return to normal operation after the update finishes.

If the problem continues, the TV will need to be serviced.
  • If aGreenorWhitelight blinks followed by aRedblinking light, follow the steps above for theRedblinking light.

Replace Lamp (For Projection TV or Projector only):

  • If theLamp Lightis blinking, it means that the lamp has burned out and needs to be replaced.
  • When replacing the lamp, be sure not to touch the glass surface. If you accidentally touch the lamp's surface, clean it with an alcohol wipe to remove any oil residue. If you do not do this, the life of the lamp can be shortened.
