JMU vs 49ers football 8/31

Kickoff time for the JMU @ UNCC football game is sett for 8 pm 8/31/24. Game will be televised on ESPNU.

UNCC has the JMU game on both of its 3-game mini plan options. The stadium only seat 15K, so I bought mini plans for my wife and I. The stadium is only 11 miles from my house and the other games are ECU and Tulane on Halloween night.

I have had 49ers hoops season tickets on and off for over 20 years, but have only attended a handful of football games, and half of those have been against the Dukes or the Tribe.

RE: JMU vs 49ers football 8/31

I was wondering what the single game purchase scenario was going to look like for this game. I figured the small stadium size and the large JMU contingent might drive prices up.

Thanks for the info. The 3 game pack sounds like the way to go. It shouldnt be too hard to sell off ECU and Tulane.

RE: JMU vs 49ers football 8/31

I bought a mini STH pack for UVA last year to ensure I had a decent seat, which I didn’t really end up using much thanks to the annoying fans in front. Also pretty much wasted my other 2 tickets as you couldn’t give away a Wahoo ticket.

RE: JMU vs 49ers football 8/31

It is interesting both mini-plans feature JMU this year as one of their premiere home game opponents.

Its not clear if purchasing a single game ticket for JMU will be a possibility directly from the school, or only from secondary markets. JMU will have an allotment, but I'd imagine it will be small based on stadium size.

With only 15k seats, this is a very different dynamic from UVA and that game likely sells out imo. We brought large numbers to ECU and NC St when we were still FCS and I think the same will happen here. We travel well in Carolina.

We travel well in Carolina because there's a bunch of alumni living there, especially Charlotte. The Coaches Caravan has stopped in Charlotte in the past with every bit of a turnout the Staunton one had this year.

Off topic some, but how was the Staunton CC event? Never heard much about it. Knowing Obaugh I am sure he and his buddies were having a good time. The 757 event only had about 60 folks, and the Duke Club folks seemed exhausted and not excited to be there (except Sarah from Ticketing. She was friendly and welcoming and actually smiled), but they were on night 3 of traveling, which is tiring for sure. Honestly, Coach P was the lone bright spot of the Norfolk event- he Actually mingled and spoke to the peons in the group like us. I can’t get up to many mbb games, but his impact was such that my wife and I are considering buying season tix because of his interaction. I can see why players and families would love the guy.

Don’t know the location specific breakdowns, but DC said they had well over 400 people combined this year show up. Likely Richmond and NoVa were the largest. That feels like at least 10% of season ticket holders. Not sure what percentage of people who attended caravan are currently STH, or attend most games.

The NoVa stop had good energy, and they were pretty engaged with the crowd both before and after the formal session. It was their first stop though. Perhaps after that and Richmond they did get a bit tired.

Staunton was outside and a storm barely missed shutting it down. We had to head for shelter for a few minutes then wipe the rain water from tables and chairs before it got going again. I think that I heard the number was approximately 60.

No doubt about Coach P being able to present himself as a down home good guy who people want to engage with. Chesney is a bit more about the task at hand. He has a massive job to do. I spent most of my time speaking with him, he's very focused on the job. I didn't get to Sean, he may have slid out before the others, as others said, his points were the OOC lineup and bringing in three point guards.

Matt is giving us a totally different look. Clearly the young athlete will relate well with our new AD. We're used to the position being a fixture at JMU, I hope this stability continues. Nothing Matt did says something different, but he's so young compared to Jeff, I hope he and his family settle in for a long journey.

The only other CC that I've attended was in Charlotte several years ago. I want to say that Charlotte event had a lot more questions, and tougher to address, than this one at Staunton. There was nothing that had any of the coaches shuffling and dodging for acceptable answers. Would have liked to have more time for the Q&A, maybe the rain cut it short, but I believe the crowd had more they wanted to ask.

I think based on where we are in the calendar Chesney probably has more going on. As I understand it the next month for most college coaches is a bit of a vacation if there is such a thing so these last few weeks were probably a whirlwind. He knows he has a lot to work to do and fast to get this team ready. He is a very personable guy though under different circ*mstances as he was extremely great with my 15 year old son who bumped into him in elevator in Fort Worth.
